What is the Child Care Food Program ? |

|
|
The Child Care Food Program is a nationwide child nutrition program
founded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). USDA has
made funds available to help pay for cost of food to ensure that all
children receive nutritous, well-balanced meals. The program provides a
cash payment for meals served to children in licenced family day care
homes. All children are eligible, without regard to race, color, sex,
age, national origin, or disability.
In addition to cash
reimbursment, the program offers nutritional guidance through in-home
visits and workshops carried out through a sponsered agency such as
Ventura County Child Care Food Program.
The USDA has set easy
to follow minimum meal requirements for providers to serve in their
family day care homes. It is also required that each provider keep
accurate daily records of what was served at each meal as well as the
number of meals served.
All licensed family day care homes are eligible to join the program.
